Tips before traveling by speedboat in Galapagos

When traveling between islands, take into account the following tips that will make your ferry trip more pleasant and safe:

Buy the ferry ticket at least 2 days in advance. Depending on the season, the boats are usually full.

Depending on the date of your trip, the sea conditions will vary, from January to June, the sea is calmer and from July to December the waves are stronger.

Ferries only travel to the populated islands of San Cristóbal, Isabela, Santa Cruz and Floreana.

The boats do not travel directly from Cristobal Island to Isabela, you must make a stop on Santa Cruz Island.

The only Isabela Island that charges income tax. The value is 5 usd. for national tourists and 10 usd. For foreign tourists

Arrive 1 hour before departure time.

It is recommended NOT to have breakfast or lunch in advance.

Approximate travel time between islands is 2 to 2:30 hours.

There are additional costs to pay that are: Water taxi $1, have cash on hand.

Each passenger can carry up to 23 kg as luggage, if it exceeds $10 must be paid for each additional suitcase or large volume sports item such as bicycles or surfboards.
Take a seasickness pill one hour before leaving, since the weather at sea is not predictable, it can be rough on some days and very calm on others.
Carry a windbreaker jacket or sweater always at hand.
Protect travel suitcases well, sometimes seawater can enter the boat.
Keep personal documents in a safe and dry place.
